Professor Declan O’Sullivan

Professor in Computer Science


Declan O’Sullivan is a Professor in Computer Science in the School of Computer Science and Statistics in Trinity College Dublin (TCD). He is a co-champion of the Trinity Digital Engagement interdisciplinary theme, and a Principal Investigator at the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) ADAPT Research Centre.  Declan was elected as a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin for the quality of his research and contribution to college in 2019. He has 13 years of research experience in industry, having worked in IONA Technologies and Broadcom Eireann Research.  In the last 17 years in TCD he has supervised to completion 25 Phd students; 7 MSc by Research Theses and 80+ MSc Dissertations.

Prof. O’Sullivan and his team are developing new theoretical, conceptual and algorithmic techniques for data integration in data diverse environments. The team has particular expertise in W3C-based Knowledge Graphs, Semantic Web and Linked Data environments. He is successfully collaborating in a wide range of Digital Humanities projects,  through the development of developing and application of these approaches, such as the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland and Searobend Linked Metadata for English Language Texts.
