Blog 16: VOICES Collaboration with St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Representative Church Body Library

The VOICES Project is delighted to announce a collaboration with St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Representative Church Body Library (RCBL) to facilitate the curation of the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Archive which is housed at the RCBL, Churchtown.

Lease of farmland in Ballybane, Aungierstown, and Priestown, Parish of Kilmactalway, Co. Dublin to Elizabeth Paulson (widow), from the Dean of St Patrick’s, Revd William Fuller, 20th March 1660, in Register of Copy Leases, 1660-1689, RCBL C2.1.27.3, f 116-117.

The project which runs from September 2026 to August 2027, will focus on the integration of recently catalogued records of St. Patrick’s Cathedral (RCBL C2.10), within the wider Cathedral archive. It will pay close attention to the collection of property and legal records of the Cathedral during the early modern period, particularly pertaining to lease holdings by women.

The VOICES team is delighted to welcome Michael Flaherty, who recently completed an M.Phil in Early Modern History at TCD. Liaising closely with Dr. Susan Hood (RCBL Librarian & Archivist) and the VOICES Project, Michael will research women in the records.

This exciting collaboration was launched at a recent visit by the some of the VOICES team to the Representative Church Body Library.

Dr. Claire McNulty (Post Doc, VOICES), Professor Jane Ohlmeyer (PI, VOICES), Dr. Susan Hood (RCBL Librarian & Archivist) and Michael Flaherty (Research Assistant, VOICES), Donal Farrell, (PhD Student RINN AI/TCD).

Professor Jane Ohlmeyer would like to take this opportunity to thank Very Revd Dr. William W. Morton (Dean of St. Patricks Cathedral) and Dr. Susan Hood (RCBL Librarian & Archivist) for their support of this project.

You can keep up to date with Michael’s findings on both voicesproject.ie and for the RCBL’s Archive of the Month series (churchofireland.org/about/rcb-library/archive-of-the-month).
